.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 204 AM CDT Fri Apr 4 2025

Strong southwesterly flow aloft will continue over the central
Plains for the next couple of days as a deep cutoff low
makes slow progress eastward out of the Desert southwest.
Moisture advection at all levels continues to increase as a
result of the southerly flow tapping into Gulf moisture.
Widespread light to moderate rain showers will likely develop
later this morning as a mid-level wave ejects out of the mean
flow aloft into the central Plains. With upper-level ascent
continuing to remain overhead, light showers will likely
persist through the afternoon and evening, but become more
scattered in nature. Late Friday night and into early Saturday
morning, a cold front will begin pushing southeast across the
area. Increased lift along the front paired with some residual
moisture could continue light showers into early Saturday
morning across portions of central and eastern Kansas. The
cutoff low finally progresses through the Plains Saturday night
into Sunday and brings one last small chance of light
precipitation to far east central Kansas. With temperatures
hovering around freezing, some flurries may mix in with the
rain.

Northwesterly flow aloft develops by midweek. A weak mid-level
wave may move across the central Plains Tuesday night and
bring precipitation chances to the area once again. But moisture
looks limited at this time. Warmer temperatures (70s/80s) are
favored for the end of the week as an upper-level ridge begins
developing.
